Lately I’ve been kind of hard on my husband. I’ve been in one of those “I do everything” moods, where I claim that he “never does anything” or “just won’t help me.” Well, last night he folded every bit of the laundry for me, and let me tell you, it was four loads!
As Father’s Day approaches, I’ve been reminded that the job of a husband isn’t easy either, especially when I’m a stay-at-home mom who depends completely on his financial support of our family. So I decided to make a list of all the things he does do for me.
- Mows the lawn.
- Keeps dirty clothes separated from clean ones.
- Put baby locks on the cabinets.
- Whispers “I love you” often. (That alone shows what a wonderful guy he is.)
- Takes care of my parents and his parents.
- Generously gives me shopping money from time to time.
- Encourages my writing.
- Reads our baby a story, Scripture, and prays for him every night.
- Excels at his job. (He’s number one in his company.)
- Fills my car with gas when I’m running low.
- Keeps the hall bathroom clean.
- Cleans up after I’ve cooked dinner.
- Often grills for us on nights when I’m too tired to cook.
- Laughs with me.
- Trusts me.
- Lives a life of integrity.
It took me less than five minutes to come up with that little bitty list. I wonder how many other things I could add to it if I really put some thought into it.
Really most of us women have great husbands. We’re just so busy thinking about their faults that we miss out on the wonderful things they do for us.
As Father’s Day approaches, let me encourage you to make a list of good things about your husband. You’ll be amazed at how it can change your attitude if you struggle like I do. And I’m sure it will make for a much happier Father’s Day this year!

Thanks for a great post, Sabrina. I had a good reminder from a secular magazine from a single mom, urging moms who had husbands to appreciate what they had! As for me, I don't think I could survive. :)

I'm so honored to know David! He is such a good co-worker and representative, I can only imagine what a great husband he is. You all sound like a wonderful pair!
